Earlier in May, the New Iberia Police Department in Louisiana revealed a disturbing incident involving the death of an Arby’s restaurant manager, Nguyet Le, who was discovered deceased in the restaurant’s freezer. As of now, the cause of her death remains under investigation pending a complete autopsy. However, details from a police report suggest that she might have become trapped in the freezer, evident from blood stains on the freezer door and the condition she was found in.
Now, the family of the deceased has decided to file a lawsuit against the fast food company and its franchise owner, seeking $1 million in damages. Houston-based law firm Pierce Skrabanek, who is representing the family in the lawsuit, confirmed the identity of the deceased. Although investigators are not considering foul play in Le’s death, her death is deemed suspicious. Thus, the police are exercising additional precautions in their investigations.
According to the law firm, the unfortunate event involving Nguyet Le is intolerable. Depending upon the investigation’s findings, it might be plausible to sue Arby’s on grounds of premises liability, workers’ compensation, and wrongful death.
This is not an isolated incident of a body being discovered in a commercial freezer. A similar situation unfolded in 2017 when a 19-year-old was found dead in a freezer at a hotel in Illinois. Over time, multiple deaths have occurred from individuals becoming locked inside freezers. The causes of such fatalities often include extreme cold, lethal fume inhalation, and suffocation.
The Pierce Skrabanek law firm pointed out potential hazards linked with freezer facilities that can be life-threatening. These risks include becoming trapped, exposure to extreme cold temperatures, and potential neglect in maintenance.
In response to the incident, Arby’s released a statement acknowledging the situation at their New Iberia franchise. They stated their full cooperation with the local authorities during the investigation. However, due to the active status of the investigation, they refrained from making further comments and directed any future inquiries to the police department.
