Every baby deserves love and care. This is why this adoption agency is looking for temporary caregivers who have the time to care for newborn babies. Those who love to take care of babies will surely love this job.

ABC News reported that some agencies need more volunteers to make sure that these babies will have loving people to hold, hug, and care for them, even just for the first few weeks after they are born. One agency who is looking for volunteers is Spence-Chapin based in New York. Spence-Chapin is seeking for volunteers to care for newborn babies at least two to four weeks while the mother still decides whether to proceed with the adoption or not.

According to Joan Jaeger, the vice president of outreach and communications for the Adoption Learning Partners who provide resources for every stage of the adoption process, they endorse this practice but wants to clear it out that this temporary newborn care is not meant to be a long-term solution. This is only designed for new mothers who are still considering adoption. This way, it can provide relief to these moms while making their decision.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services reports that there are 159,000 American children that are adopted or waiting to be adopted every single year. Foster-care adoptions reach an average of 50,000 a couple of years ago. This number started to decline from 2005 to 2012. But in the following years, the number of children who are in need of foster care is increasing.

Adam Pertman, the president of the National Center on Adoption and Permaneny told ABC News that the agencies are not best-funded as of late. This is why volunteers are needed and are more important than they have ever been.

Those who have volunteered for temporary newborn care share their joy and pleasure of taking the job. One of them is Susan Singer from New York. During her interview with ABC News, she gladly shared her experiences in taking care of newborn babies. She said, “My job is to make the baby feel safe and loved 24-7. I hold them all the time. I talk to them. I sing to them. We play music. And I get so much joy and pleasure. I feel so good when I’m with an infant that I hope that it does … something for them, too.”

But before you can be a volunteer, an extensive background check is done. They will also be subjected to home visits. This is for the agency to ensure that the babies will be cared for in a safe environment. Once approved, the agencies are the ones who will provide the expenses for diapers, milk formulas, transportation, as well as clothing.

So, are you interested to be a volunteer baby caretaker? Aside from Spence-Chapin, there is another agency is also looking for volunteers – The Cradle. They serve the greater part of Chicago area. According to the agency’s site, they have a need for onsite cuddlers too. In fact, there is already a long waiting list of volunteers who are more than eager to provide their love and care for these newborn babies.
