Waitress Splits $10,000 Tip With Co-workers, Gets Fired

Doug

A waitress named Linsey Boyd was let go from her job at the Mason Jar Cafe in Michigan after she got a really big tip of $10,000 on a bill that was only $32.43 and decided to share it with her coworkers. Even though she shared the tip, the cafe said they didn’t fire her because of that.

After she was fired, a lot of people who support Linsey started leaving bad reviews for the cafe because they didn’t think it was fair she lost her job. Linsey said on Facebook, which she later deleted, that she was just trying to be nice by sharing the tip, but instead, she got a lot of negativity and rumors started about her.

The whole situation started when a kind man, who had just been to a friend’s funeral, left the big tip because he wanted to do something nice and asked for it to be split among the eight servers working that day. Each server would get about $1,600. But not long after, problems and drama started happening, according to Linsey, though she didn’t give all the details. Some of the drama was because some employees who weren’t working that day thought they should get some of the money too.

Linsey tried to make things better and stop the rumors, but it just made things worse. Then, she got a call telling her she was fired, which was really hard for her because she had been working since she was 15.

The cafe’s owners, Able Martinez and Jayme Cousins, said they couldn’t say much about why Linsey was fired because of laws and to protect their staff. They did say it wasn’t because of the tip. They also shared that they really care about their staff and have done a lot for them, like keeping them on during COVID and helping with college funds. They said firing Linsey wasn’t an easy choice.

In all of this, Linsey felt like the big tip, which was supposed to be a good thing, ended up causing a lot of trouble, and she was the one who ended up without a job because of it.
