This Is What Happens To Your Body If You Sleep With Socks On

If you’ve got trouble sleeping, this could actually help you.

There are quite a lot of things that you know you can engage in so as to get yourself a good night’s sleep.

For instance, you can try getting a little more exercise done during the day, forming a strict sleep schedule and adhering to it, and switching off all your electronic devices an hour before you turn in for the night.

All of these are proven to have some positive effects on the amount of sleep that you can get every night.

However, there are also some theories- such as whether or not you need to put on socks- that have been the subject of some serious debates over the years.

As a matter of fact, a lot of people have taken a firm stance on the facts that they believe to actually be true. On the other hand as well, here are people who are all for putting on socks while sleeping, and who just can’t imagine themselves going to bed without putting on socks.

According to science, putting on socks before bed will provide more benefits than just improving the quality of your sleep.

A study that was published in the International Weekly Journal of Science has revealed that people who put on socks are able to fall asleep fifteen minutes sooner than those who do not.

When you keep your feet cozy and warm, there is a dilation of your blood vessels, and this will send signals to your brain that you’re tired and you need to nod off. Then, this heat is transported to very part of your body in order to get you prepared for an awesome sleep session.

The study also discovered that people who put on socks to bed are able to experience less dry feet and hot flashes.

There are cultures in the world where the popular belief is in the positive effects that a person can get from sleeping with their socks on.

For instance, Dr. Elizabeth Trattner, a doctor who specializes in integrative and Chinese medicine, said to Readers Digest that for a few centuries now, the benefits of keeping the feet dry and warm have been known to a lot of people, and these people have adopted that act extensively.

She said, “When you have cold feet, you are draining the energy of your body. Also, the flow of vital qi (energy) and blood (nutrition) s obstructed in the body. For this reason, it is very important to ensure that qi and blood are circulated properly. By so doing, we are able to keep this very painful obstruction away from the body and ensure that the energy is flowing as smoothly as possible. Cold restricts the flow of energy, and this flow is encouraged by warmth or heat. If you think about it, taking a warm bath, you tend to relax. However, you get tense when you’re in cold water. There is a form of stagnation that is caused by cold, and it can also cause some pain (think of Reynaud’s Syndrome)”

A lot of people have attested to the fact that they are able to sleep faster when they wear socks to bed, especially when they feel a tad restless.

So the question is; do you put on socks to bed?
