Life hacks are our simple life savers. There are just so many hacks that we see online that we didn’t even know can actually make our lives so much easier. This is the reason why there are plenty of videos that are going viral online about these simple life hacks and one of the most popular hacks that we should learn is how to remove the nasty smell from our car by using a material you wouldn’t think possible; a clothespin.

A man shared a DIY air freshener video online, a very simple yet effective way to remove bad odors from your vehicle and your home. He only uses a clothespin and a few drops of essential oil to make this happen. This might sound like a crazy idea, but it was proven to be very effective. This might just be the trick that can help us save money from buying expensive air fresheners not only for our cars but also for our homes.

As shown in the video, the man used the essential oil and rubbed it on the clothespin. Just a couple of drops did the trick then he removed the air vent cover and clipped the DIY air freshener inside. He placed the cover back in and voila! As simple as that! You can also use this clothespin hack to get rid of the bad smell inside your car. Another video shows that you can clip this on the Air conditioning unit and it will not take long for your car to smell fresh and clean again!

Another trick that many have proven to be effective is by using baking soda and powdered charcoal. According to Lifehacker, these substances can be vacuumed and cleaned easily and this is a very effective way to remove foul odors like cigarette smoke. This is way easier compared to using coffee grounds, which is also one of the most amazing hacks.

When you want to know why your vehicle air vent is smelly, there are reasons why it is emanating this foul odor. Commonly, the cause of the smell is fungus, mold, or it can be bacteria inside the climate control system of your vehicle. Usually, this forms in the evaporator core or near the condenser of your A/C unit. Most of these are from these areas because they are usually moist and the place is enclosed. This is a very common problem that you can prevent from getting worse.

You can start by making sure that you turn off the air conditioning unit at least 2 to 5 minutes before you turn off your vehicle, but leave the fan on. Make it a habit to turn off your A/C while you are still driving because this can dry a bit before you turn off your engine. Another way is to buy a bottle of Lysol antiseptic spray. When you start your car, turn your air conditioning on full blast and it should pull air from the outside. Roll down the windows then start spraying Lysol into the exterior vents for 20 to 30 seconds. Rest it for a minute then spray again still with the windows down. Let it run for another 10 minutes before you turn it off.

The DIY Air Freshener may just be a temporary fix for the foul smell of our home air vents or the nasty smell inside our car, but this will be enough to make it last until you have someone check on it and get to the bottom of this problem. There are plenty of DIY life hacks that you can also try at home like the DIY air freshener to keep your house smelling fresh and clean.
