A Florida woman has been charged with child neglect after her second grandchild died while under her care. Kathleen Marie Peacock, 55, was arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, March 21, following the death of her 6-month-old granddaughter, Adalyn Zisa.

According to authorities, Peacock was babysitting Adalyn at her home in Winter Haven when the infant suddenly stopped breathing. Peacock reportedly attempted CPR on the child before calling 911, but Adalyn was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

This is not the first time Peacock has been in this situation. In 2014, another grandchild of Peacock’s, a 4-month-old boy named Kylen, died while under her care. At the time, Peacock was charged with aggravated manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years in prison, but her sentence was reduced to 10 years on appeal.

In light of this latest tragedy, Peacock has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child under 18, as well as child neglect with great bodily harm. She is currently being held at the Polk County Jail without bail.

“Peacock was supposed to protect these children, not put them in harm’s way,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd in a statement. “Instead, she has shown gross neglect and utter disregard for their safety and well-being.”

The tragic deaths of Adalyn and Kylen highlight the importance of proper childcare and the dangers that can arise when leaving young children in the care of someone who is not equipped to handle them. Parents and caregivers should always take the necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of young children, including proper supervision and training in CPR and other life-saving techniques.

The case is still under investigation, and anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at (863) 298-6200.
