Richard Lewis, a funny man who made lots of people laugh on stage and on TV shows like “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” passed away at his home in Los Angeles from a heart attack. He was 76 years old.
Last April, Richard shared that he was sick with Parkinson’s disease and decided to stop performing comedy. Even though he was dealing with this, he appeared in the latest season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” on HBO.
In 2021, Richard had to miss a season of “Curb” to get better after having three surgeries. But he made a surprise comeback for one episode. He told a magazine that coming back and getting a big welcome made him feel really good. Even Larry David, who usually doesn’t hug people, gave him a hug that day.
Richard was famous for joking about himself in a very honest way. He started acting in movies and TV in 1979 and became very popular in the 1980s and ’90s. He was on famous talk shows and had his own comedy shows on TV where he shared his unique humor.
He also acted in a sitcom called “Anything but Love” with Jamie Lee Curtis, where they played two people working together who end up liking each other a lot. Richard acted in other TV shows and movies too, like “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” and “Leaving Las Vegas.”
Richard was very open about his struggles with drinking and drugs earlier in his life. He chose to live a healthier life, especially after seeing other people suffer from similar problems.
Coming back to “Curb Your Enthusiasm” after being sick meant a lot to him. He said comedy and staying healthy were the most important things to him. Larry David, who worked with Richard a lot, said he was like a brother and was both the funniest and nicest person.
HBO, the channel that shows “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” said they were very sad about Richard’s passing. They remembered him as a brilliant comedian who brought joy and laughter to many people.
Richard leaves behind his wife, Joyce Lapinsky.
