Animal abuse is one of the most prevalent problems that we are facing worldwide. Although animal rights are being respected by many, there are still others who can’t help but be cruel to these animals. While others do their best to save stray animals on the streets, others did something so cruel that even the Turkey president and his political opponents agreed on one thing.
All of this is because of a puppy that was found mutilated in a Turkish forest.
The puppy was found in a forest in the Sapanca district located in the province of Sakarya. During the recent election, animal rights were not the main concern of everyone’s campaign, but they immediately changed. The candidates considered the issue after they learned about what happened to this little dog. Its story was shared on social media and everyone was outraged and felt sorry for the pup.
This poor pup was left to die after a sick and cruel person chopped off all of its legs and tail off. Thankfully, someone found him and he was rescued. The pup was still alive when he was found and his story is now going viral all across Turkey. However, during its last surgery, his tiny body was not able to survive and he passed away. Now, the government officials of Turkey are making it a point to let everyone understand the importance of preventing similar incidents to happen. They never want anything like this to ever happen again.
President Tayyip Erdogan informed those who attended a rally that the police already has a lead as to who was responsible for the pup’s death. They already brought in someone whom they think is responsible. He is a construction worker but nobody really knows if he is really the one who committed the crime.
President Tayyip Erdogan said:
“Whether at home or on the street, we will take the law into consideration and evaluate it. This operator was arrested today. The authorities in Sapanca ordered his arrest. There is nothing acceptable about this, but it is very important to show this awareness.”
Turkey’s laws when it comes to animal abuse are very lax and surely is not strong enough to prevent this kind of incidents from happening. Even though Turkey is now facing a lot of problems, animal abuse is something that the government can easily accomplish. In fact, an amendment has already been proposed for months to parliamentary but they haven’t acted on it yet. Despite the 2 to 3 years long ‘state of emergency,’ the government would still be able to establish laws and change whatever order of things that they have in the present. So there should be no excuse for not acting on this serious matter.
Like humans, animals have their rights to live and be given the chance to have everything that they need in life. Some countries are doing their best to protect these animals from cruel people, so it is not impossible for Turkey to also do the same. Everyone is hoping that what happened to this poor pup should serve a lesson and encourage the government to strengthen their laws regarding animal abuse and cruelty.
