Owner Goes on Vacation And Leaves Dog at Daycare, Shocked At Notification That Pup Is Ringing Doorbell
Dogs are very smart. They are highly observant and intelligent animals. Some dogs can do things that you would never expect them to do. If you have dogs at home, you know that some are smarter than others. That’s the exact category that Dexter falls into.
As Dexter proved in February, he is a mutt with a mission. Although his owner, Jeremy Henson, had left for Las Vegas and had arranged for Dexter to be cared for at a local doggy daycare, Dexter decided that he would rather be home as he is more comfortable there.
Without hesitation, the pooch broke free and managed to sneak out of the doggy daycare and ran two miles to get home. It was not an easy feat, that’s for sure, but he made it. And the moment he arrived at the empty house, he did something that shocked his owner. Dexter rang the doorbell!
His owner was not aware of what was happening back home as he was on vacation until he received a notification from his Ring doorbell. That’s when he realized what his dog had done and he was shocked as to how it happened.
In a Facebook post, Henson shared:
“So, we’re in Zion National Park/Vegas this week & Dexter is staying at a local doggy daycare. Imagine our surprise when he rang our ring doorbell! He’s safe, but look at that 2nd pic! He was trying HARD to use that doorknob. I’m glad I walk him all over our area so he knew how to get home bc it could have turned out WAY worse with the blizzard approaching.”
Well, sure enough, the dog had been paying attention all this time by drawing maps of their neighborhood in his head, practicing how to ring the doorbell. And he did get in after a couple of attempts in getting his paws around it in order to unlock the door and get himself in.
For sure Dexter was confused as to why his human is not home. Good thing Henson spoke to Dexter through the speaker function of the doorbell to keep him calm. Fortunately, a nearby friend was able to walk over and take care of the persistent Dexter because a storm was brewing outside.
Talking to People, Hensor shared, “We adopted Dexter to be a watchdog for my wife while I traveled, and he takes that job VERY seriously, so that’s probably why he was so determined to come home.”
Henson shared that they’re very thankful for their Ring camera doorbell. He said, “Previously, it made me feel safe knowing that whenever anyone came to our doorstep, we would be notified of it. But now, I truly believe that the Ring Doorbell saved my dog’s life. Without it, he may have been stuck outside and wouldn’t have been able to find a warm spot to stay safe.”
Henson also made it clear that they had no ill will toward the daycare facility they had chosen, and that they did not want the name of the establishment to be made public because they did not want to risk receiving negative feedback.
What happened to Dexter quickly went viral on social media. People were captivated and amused by his antics.
