Owner Comes Home Surprised That Golden Retriever Invited A ‘New Friend’ Over

No pet owner wants to experience the pain of losing a fur baby. But at some point, it will happen and you have to come to terms with it. Humans have the ability to somehow learn how to live with the loss of a loved one. But do animals have that instinct too? When a fur baby dies, it’s sad for both their humans and the other living pets as well.

Imgur user “squishiepeachies” has a Golden Retriever named ‘Crosby.’ They also had another dog and a cat. Both passed away just within a few months of each other. It was a hard loss for him, but he knew that his dog Crosby is having a hard time adjusting to the new changes at the home of not having his companions around.

Nevertheless, he made sure that Crosby would not feel alone even if he the only pet left in the family. However, he was wrong and learned about the dogs’ yearning for a companion when he came home one day.

Squishiepeachies shared:
“This is Crosby. He is the best good boy. About 6-months-ago, he lost his kitty friend, and just over a month ago he lost his best doggo friend that he’s had as a companion since he was 8-weeks-old. Crosby has been pretty okay about being an only doggo, or so I thought.”

When Squishiepeachies got home one day, he was surprised to see that Crosby had invited a new friend over!

He explained, “On Thursday I came home, and instead of our normal routine of Crosby howling with excitement to see me, he led me straight to the bathtub.”

Crosby brought home a tiny kitten…

They have never seen this kitten in the neighborhood before. He said, “This kitty was meowing up a storm.” Squishiepeachies adds, “I’ve never seen this kitten before, and although I do have a doggy door, it’s way too high off the ground for this little baby to have snuck in. Seems to me that Crosby must have brought her inside.” It seems like Crosby invited this tiny kitten over and decided to keep the feline to himself.

Then upon closer inspection, he realized that this kitten that Crossby brought home looked a little familiar.

He further shared, “She has an uncanny resemblance to the kitty friend he lost 6 months ago. I talked to the neighbors surrounding my house and she’s been seen before, but no one knows who owns her.”

Crosby’s owner took the kitten to get it checked for microchips since he didn’t want to keep someone else’s cat. And thankfully, the kitten is not microchipped. This means that he has the option of keeping the kitten or not.

Squishiepeachies added, “She was, however, spayed just a few days ago, and is thought to be about 4 months old. The vet basically told me that if I took her to the shelter she’d be put down because there are already over 300 kittens at the county shelter alone that need homes. He said I could try putting her outside and hope she goes home, or I could keep her.”

In light of Crosby’s efforts to bring this new cat home, Squishiepeachies decided to keep the cat to be part of their family. They named the kitten “Raina Lil Ray-Ray.”
