On The Anniversary Of Her Son’s Death, Students Surprise Teacher

All this week I have just been trying to make it through, taking it easy in my classes as to not emotionally overwhelm myself. I let my students know what the importance of this week was and told them I wouldn’t be at school on Friday. They did so good at keeping a secret, I had absolutely no idea they were planning this behind my back! I am so blessed to teach such amazing kids, my heart was so full after this! #teachertok #choirteacher #middleschool #middleschoolteacher #musicteacher #iteachmiddleschool #music #middleschoolchoirteacher #foryoupage #middleschoolchoir #teacher #choir #chorus #middleschoolmusic #empathy #feelgood #loss #griefjourney #infantloss

A group of middle school kids really touched their teacher’s heart with a special surprise. Sometimes, you do nice things just because, but this time, these kids had a really big reason. It was the one-year anniversary of when their teacher’s son had passed away. They secretly planned something special to remember him.

When teacher Mindy Cook walked into the dark gym at the end of school, the middle school choir was there ready to sing “Amazing Grace” just for her. They also made her son Winston’s name light up with glowsticks.

Mindy shared on TikTok, “They kept the secret so well, I had no clue they were doing this! I feel so lucky to have such wonderful students. My heart felt so happy!”

In a video on TikTok, we see middle school students showing a message made of glowsticks. After the song “Amazing Grace,” the choir sang “Stand By Me.” The kids also made a special memorial for Mindy with pictures of her son Winston. Even though Mindy was sad about her son, the kindness from her students showed her how much they cared and felt like a second family to her.
