Olivia-Newton John announced on May 2017 that she was diagnosed again with breast cancer. She was initially diagnosed with the condition in 1992. She had a tough battle with cancer.
A statement was released following this incident. This was the reason why she postponed her U.S. and Canada concert tour last June because of her severe backpains. So she had to postpone the first half of her concert tour. It turned out that her breast cancer metastasized to the sacrum.
Olivia completed a short course of photon radiation therapy in addition to her natural wellness therapies. She was confident that later this year, she will be back, better than ever to celebrate her shows with her audience.
She said, “I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia.”
Since this incident happened, people have sent her non-stop well wishes as she battles through her condition. On her recent interview with Fox, she opened up about her diagnosis and shared what was helping her cope with the treatment.
When asked about how she was doing, she shared, “Great — I’m doing great… Last year in September I was bedbound. I was lucky enough to be in my own hospital in Melbourne. I spent my 70th birthday at my wellness center. It couldn’t have been more wonderful. My nieces and nephews were there, my best friend was there. It was really quite beautiful. And I’m so proud of the center so it’s a great honor to raise funds for it.”
She was referring to the OIivia Newton-John Cancer Center situated just near her hometown, Melbourne, Australia. She is hosting an auction to help raise funds for this treatment center.
When further asked about her remission, the singer and Grease star answered, “I don’t call it remission — I just say I’m living with it. I’m living with it very well. To think that you could get rid of every single cell is not really reality at this point. But I’m feeling great. Things are shrinking. I’m taking a lot of herbs because my husband worked in the Amazon and he’s incredibly knowledgable.”
She also credited a very controversial alternative medicine for her recovery. She shared that she had been using cannabis extracts that greatly helped her with her condition. This alternative medicine helped her ween off morphine for pain that she was using for her cancer-induced pelvis fracture. She added, “Cannabis will not kill you but these opiates will. I’m an advocate of it, very much so.”
Despite all of her struggles professional and personally, she remained positive. She explains that if everything was always the same, we will not have the drive to improve, to grow, and to explore new things in life. She shared that she had her share of disappointments and flops but it was all part of her life. “You just keep going,” she said.
For someone who has gone through a lot of pain and suffering, Olivia Newton-John remained positive. We can all learn from her words of encouragement. Even though things in our lives are not going as planned, it doesn’t mean that we have to give up. We have to keep going, not only for ourselves but also for everyone around us who love and care for us.
