Some police officers do not mean to look intimidating but scary. Many of them really have a kind and lovable personalities. When other police officers only focus on their duty to maintain law and order, others take a huge step and do their best to build a long-lasting relationship built on trust with their community.
We have to admit that many of us are not comfortable with cops, which is why some of them build bridges and show their community members that they can also be their friend. This is what an Ohio sheriff’s deputy did and he is now going viral!
22 years old Lake County Sherriff’s Deputy Zach Ropos stopped by at a 9-year-old’s lemonade stand when he got thirsty one summery day. He purchased a drink from Gabrielle’s lemonade stand because he knew that this is what he needed to quench his thirst.
He said, “I see a little girl come running up to my police car. She hands me a glass, I hand her a few bucks. I asked her what she wanted to do with the money. She said she’d get an iPad to help with school and play games.”
Ropos was amazed that this girl, at such a young age, wants to focus on her schoolwork. This inspires him because he knows that most kids these days are not that serious when it comes to their education. But this girl is definitely an exemption. He wanted to help so he did something that was totally unexpected!
He approached Gabrielle’s mom, and he told her that he has an old iPad that he was not using anymore. He also told the mom that he wanted to give this to Gabrielle. So that night after his shift, he looked for the iPad that he was referring to but was disappointed when he found out that it was not working anymore. He said, “I went home that night, fired up the iPad, but it just wasn’t updated anymore. Nothing really worked on it.”
The next day, he dropped by a local store and asked for a deal. He told them that he will pay a portion of the price of the iPad and asked if they can donate the rest of it.
A few hours later, he came back to Gabrielle’s lemonade stand but not to buy more lemonade. He said, “I talked to the little girl, gave her a speech about how courageous and admirable I think her efforts were to save up her money. I asked her how much she saved up and she said she only had a few dollars.”
Ropos then learned that Gabrielle needed money for gas so this girl gave her mom what she earned that day and just let go her plans of buying an iPad. So when Ropos knew about this it touched him deeply because he knew how great of a kid Gabrielle really was. This is when Ropos handed her the surprise.
It’s a brand new iPad!
Definitely, something that Gabrielle never expected to receive that day. This is what she needed to help her excel at school. This is surely an officer who knows how to make a little girls dream come true. He said:
“Seeing her face is how I remember Christmas when I was five-years-old. She couldn’t stop smiling!”
