Mom who miscarried four babies in a year welcomes miracle

Laura Kane, a 34-year-old project manager who lives in Kidderminster with her boyfriend Aaron Reynolds, a 33-year-old plasterer, and their nine-month-old son William, went through a really tough time before William was born. Laura wanted to be a mom more than anything, but she had a really hard journey. She first got pregnant in April 2021 but lost the baby early on, which made her very sad. Then, she had an ectopic pregnancy, which is when the baby starts to grow in the wrong place, and it was so serious that it could have been very dangerous for Laura. She had to have surgery to make sure she was okay.

Laura didn’t give up, though. She got pregnant again, this time with twins, but lost one of the babies early and the other didn’t survive past eight weeks. Laura felt like these sad events weren’t just bad luck, so she talked to her doctor about getting special help from a place called Tommy’s, which is a clinic for women who have had multiple miscarriages. They put Laura on a waiting list.

By surprise, Laura got pregnant again in October 2022. The doctors at Tommy’s suggested some treatments that might help her keep the pregnancy, like progesterone pessaries, which are a kind of medicine, and a special stitch to help her cervix. Thanks to their help, Laura had a baby boy named William in June 2023. She had a planned C-section and everything went well.

Laura is so happy and grateful to finally be a mom, especially after everything she went through. She says she’ll never forget the babies she lost, and it used to make her really sad when people asked if she had kids. But now, she’s just thrilled to have William and can’t wait to celebrate Mother’s Day with him. They’re planning to go out for a meal to celebrate, and Laura is supporting a Mother’s Day campaign by Tommy’s to help other moms like her.
