Picture day is one of the most important events at school each year. Students might not be that excited about this but surely the parents are! Even when they are already able to choose their own outfit and make decisions on their own, parents can’t help but intervene. It’s difficult to admit that your children are getting older and wiser each year. Unlike when they were younger, taking a good picture now would end up in arguments and banters. Picture day is the only time where parents would be able to get professional photos taken for their kids.
Laurel Boone Hutsell was excited and anxious at the same time when she sent her son Carter to school for a picture day this year. Good thing that Carter is a very obedient son and he didn’t even put up a fight when mom told him to wear the shirt that she picked for him. They had quite a discussion about that shirt because for the past years, he was having issues blending in with the background. The last time he wore a grey shirt, the backdrop was grey. There was also a year when he wore a dark turquoise and the same thing happened! They are both hoping that this will not be the case this year.
In her mind, she had everything figured out to make sure that the pictures would be awesome. During that day Laurel showed her son how to brush his hair to the side using his fingers and also helped him figure out the best smile that he can do for the camera. She told him not to squint his eyes too much, to look more natural, and to smile like someone said something funny. She said, “Lots of smiling practice. He’s adorable. I can watch him smile at me all day long.”
When Carter came home from school that day, the first thing that he told her was, “‘Mom, I shouldn’t have worn the green shirt for pictures. It will blend in with the green screen they used.’” She answered him, “‘They used a green screen? What?! I probably should have read some fine print. Maybe they will be ok.’”
A few days later the excited mom received an email from the school with the pictures of her son during picture day. As soon as she saw the pictures, she had to look again. She recalled, “Out loud I said to myself ‘Oh my gosh. He was right. That’s exactly what happened.’ I could not stop laughing.” The results were hilarious! Each of his pictures was better than the next. Carter’s head and arms were just floating! She showed the pictures to her husband and both of them had a good laugh from it. Two things were sure though; Carter’s smile was amazing and his hair was perfect!
It’s a good thing that their family had a sense of humor about the situation. Laurel and her husband were able to get a good laugh about the green screen problem this year. Surely a coincidence again that can put a smile on everyone’s face. This innocent mistake will surely provide happy memories that they will treasure forever. Laurel said that after she shared her #momfail experience, she received tons of messages from other people, thanking her for making them laugh. Everyone was commenting about how handsome Carter is and how this mishap has brightened their day.
