Loretta Lynn is one of the most iconic American country music singer and songwriter for almost 60 years. She had multiple gold albums and she made songs famous like “Don’t Come Home A’ Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind)”, “Fist City”, “One’s on the Way”, “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)”, “Coal Miner’s Daughter”, and also made an 80s film of the same name. Lynn has been making and sharing her music non-stop since the 60s and her perseverance to continue was challenged when she had a stroke and suffered a broken hip after her fall.
Lynn was born “Loretta Webb” in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky on April 14, 1932. When she was 15 years old, Loretta married Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn and together their life was inspired by her music. He even bought her a $17 harmony guitar in 1953 and she was able to teach herself to play the instrument. Over the years Lynn worked on improving her guitar playing until she started her own band, ‘Loretta and the Trailblazers’ together with her brother Jay Lee who was playing the lead guitar.
Lynn is very popular worldwide and she is considered as country music’s all-time great singer and also a national treasure. She received numerous awards for her groundbreaking role in country music. This includes awards from the Country Music Association and also Academy of Country Music as an individual and a duet partner of different artists. Compared to other artists, she is the most awarded female recording artist for country music and by far the only female “ACM Artist of the Decade” since the 70s.
Through 6 decades of making music, she has sold over 45 million albums all over the world and has 24 number one hit singles. Her 11 albums also became number one. She continues to tour and also appeared at the Grand Ole Opry while she releases new albums. Lynn has a very powerful voice that identifies her from other country singers. She may be famous but she is also down to earth and is known for her quick wit and humor.
Loretta Lynn is now 86 years old and in the recent months, her health had been at risk especially when she had a bad fall last January. However, this did not stop her from doing what she loves and she still continued to make new music. She suffered a stroke in may 2017 and because of this, she cleared her calendar and rescheduled the original album release date which was supposed to be last August. She had been recovering from her stroke and even performed at the Tennessee Motorcycle and Music Revival.
There was another set back when she fell and broke her hip this January. She appears to be unaffected by what happened and she is right back where she belongs. She updated her social media fans with what’s happening in her music career and said on her Facebook page:
“At the Ranch yesterday filming for a music video for my new album called ‘Wouldn’t It Be Great.’”
With her update, fans know that she will be back sooner than they expected and will share again her music this year and that was what Lynn was hoping to do. For a musician, music makes their heart beat faster. This is what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Like Loretta Lynn, she may be in this industry longer than the other artists, but she will continue to make and share her music while she still can.
