Those who know Kathie Lee Gifford can testify to how much of an open book she is. She has always shared details about her faith and personal life freely. However, Kathie’s life was hit by a storm when she lost her husband Frank Gifford, and mother, Joan Epstein shortly after that. At that time Kathie was drawn into a dark place, and she was all alone. But her fans were finally able to catch a glimpse of that sad period of her life when she sat down with the “I Am Second” crew, and gave an honest, open interview, which included discussions about the hard time she faced.
Kathie Lee started by speaking about her early days trying to be a performer and how she continued to follow her passion until her dream became a reality. Speaking about the adversity and hurdles she had to overcome to get to where she is, Kathie Lee said she was turned down several times by casting agents but never let it turn her off.
Soon things started looking up for her. Her career kicked off, and she met Frank, the pair were married for 29 years. They went through a lot together, but they managed to stay married. So you can understand Kathie Lee’s devastation when her husband died. Explaining how she felt when she found her husband dead Kathie said “On a beautiful Sunday morning, I found my husband passed on to Heaven… He saw Jesus and Jesus took his breath away.”
Following Frank’s death, Kathie’s mother and children were her only support during this time, but sadly, her mother also passed away two years later. And her children also had to move away too as they grew older. Explaining her loneliness during that period, Kathie said: “My biggest struggle at this point in my life is loneliness. I’ve lost my parents, my husband is gone now, and my children live far away from me. I still live in the same big house where we made a gazillion million memories. And there are times when I am overwhelmed by loneliness.”
At this trying moment of her life, Kathie Lee said she was able to find strength in God, and it was her hope that helped her cope with the feelings of loss and loneliness she felt at that moment, and it is hat faith that has kept her afloat all these years. “I’ve discovered that if I keep thinking about what I’ve lost; I don’t pay any attention to what I still have. I don’t want to live my life in hopelessness. I’ve been there.”
And because of that, she has been able to live her life in a positive space. She was able to see through all his struggles and find something to be thankful for. “I’m so grateful that Frank is exactly where he is supposed to be.”
Kathie Lee also has a few words of encouragement for viewers; she said: “You’re supposed to be you. That’s the first letter of unique: ‘u.’ And that brings a smile to God’s face because he didn’t make a mistake with you.”
Many of her fans commented on the video, and most of them had positives to say about her. One of the comments read: “I’ve always loved Kathie Lee Gifford. I don’t typically watch morning shows, but anytime I saw her show, I just had to stop and watch. She exudes such joy; it’s infectious! So glad to see her here.”
We are glad this strong woman has found an anchor for herself in the middle of the storm that she found herself.
