A brave puppy named Smoky, who was saved from a scary house fire, is going to live with a kind firefighter. Smoky was very hurt when he first came to the South Coast Humane Society in Oregon. He had burns on his back, feet, and face. The people at the shelter took great care of him. They gave him special baths, put medicine on his wounds, and gave him lots of cuddles to help him heal.

A fire marshal thought Smoky could help teach kids how to be safe from fires. He knew a firefighter who would love to take care of Smoky. This firefighter and his wife visited Smoky a lot, and when the shelter knew Smoky was getting better, they let him go live with them.

Now, Smoky is doing great with his new family. They hope he can help teach kids important safety tips, like “stop, drop, and roll,” once he’s all better. Sadly, a lot of pets get hurt in house fires every year, but Smoky is one of the lucky ones.

Even though house fires are happening less these days, they can still be very dangerous. Cooking is the most common cause of these fires, but smoking is often how the deadliest fires start. Teaching kids and families how to stay safe is very important, and Smoky is going to be a part of that.
