Some people are about to have their happy childhood hearts broken.
As children, every single person would almost go insane over a few tootsie pops, majorly due to the fact that all of us desired to get to the tootsie rolls that were usually inside them. In the same way, we all would probably remember that ‘How many licks does it take to get to the center?’ commercial that rocked our airways for many years. As it turned out, anyone who found a star on a tootsie pop wrapper would be eligible to get a free lollipop.
It was definitely a big deal.
As a matter of fact, the only thing that could compare to this is that of a golden ticket that came right out of the popular Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory. There were only a very few of these tootsie rolls that had tiny lucky stars on them and due to this, questions have arisen as regards whether anyone actually heard of this occurrence or if anyone has actually seen someone claiming their prize.
Was the whole promotion just an elaborate hoax?
As it turns out, it actually was. It might be disappointing to hear, but it really was.
The Tootsie website had an official statement on it, and the statement went thus, “There has been a rumor going around that local convenience stores were of the habit of giving a free Tootsie Pop to anyone who brought in a wrapper that had the image of a shooting star. Unfortunately, we have no knowledge of this rumor or how it started and we are affirming that we as a company have never honored or acknowledged this promotion at any point in time”
Apart from releasing a statement, the company also went on to provide even more of a disappointment to people by saying, “As a matter of fact, the shooting star in question is something that appears on 1 in every 4 to 6 Tootsie Pop wrappers; a rate that is just as regular as the appearance of other images”
Essentially, this means that any of your tootsie pop wrappers that have been branded with those coveted shooting stars are actually not worth any form of special treatment or acknowledgement. The shooting stars are just there for the sake of being there. If you’re disappointed, take heart. You’re most probably not the only one.
At the very least, one thing that people can rely on s the fact that there are actual experiment that are conducted to truly investigate the number of licks that it will take to get to the center of a tootsie pop. These experiments in question were from Purdue University, Swarthmore Junior High School, and the University of Michigan.
The results that were gotten from all three of these educational institutions were quite conflicting. According to the report from Purdue University, it would take an average of 252 licks to get to the center of a tootsie roll. Swarthmore Junior High School reported that achieving the same feat would take 144 licks, while the University of Michigan reported the highest number, saying that it would take 411 licks to get to the center of a tootsie roll. All of these only go on to show that the world might never really know what it would exactly take.

You can perform your own experiment, though. What do you think?
