Anne Whitfield, who was famous for her role in the movie “White Christmas,” has passed away at the age of 85, her family announced. In the movie from 1954, she played the role of Susan Waverly, the granddaughter of Captain Bob Wallace, alongside stars Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney.
Sadly, Anne’s passing followed an unexpected accident that happened while she was walking in her neighborhood in Washington.
Her family said that Anne died on February 15th, surrounded by her loved ones at a hospital in Yakima, Washington, after the accident.
In a heartfelt message, her family remembered Anne’s life as full of beauty and purpose. She always aimed to make the world a better place. They were grateful to the neighbors who helped get her medical attention quickly, which allowed them to say their goodbyes and share their love and thanks with Anne, something they’ll always hold dear.
Anne was born in Mississippi in 1938 and started acting when she was just four years old, with her mom helping her as her agent and coach. After “White Christmas,” she had a successful TV career, appearing in shows like “Manhunt,” “The Untouchables,” and “The Six Million Dollar Man.”
In the 1970s, Anne left Hollywood and moved to Olympia, Washington, where she dedicated herself to promoting peace and protecting nature.
“White Christmas” became a beloved holiday movie and was the top-earning musical movie when it was released. It’s famous for its song “White Christmas,” which people still love to listen to during the holidays.
The story is about two singers who put on a show in Vermont and try to help their former commander who’s having money problems. Anne’s role as the granddaughter was a big break for her.
Just this last December, Anne got to watch “White Christmas” with her family on its 70th anniversary, a moment mentioned in her obituary.
Anne leaves behind three children and seven grandchildren, who were incredibly important to her.
Her funeral is planned for March 22nd, and instead of flowers, the family suggests donations to charity or planting trees in her memory.
