“Show me a man who has enjoyed his school days and I’ll show you a bully and a bore.” The number of young people that say they have at some point or another seen bullying in their schools is very disturbing. This goes to show that bullying is quite rampant and is increasingly becoming a menace in schools today.

What is more alarming is that more children are bullied in schools than what parents and teachers are aware of. In fact, statistics show that of every three children that is being bullied, only one report to the appropriate officials.

Kids are of often scared that when they report a case of bullying, the authorities will not deal with the situation properly. So a lot of kids deal with bullying in the same way. They just suck it up and endure months or even years of this aggressive behavior.

This young girl however showed an entirely different response to her bullying problem. One of the kids at school thought her to be a very good option for bullying. Little did he know that he thought wrong. He ended up getting a serious MMA beat down for his inappropriate actions.

According to ABC 7 , this whole thing started when the soon-to-be recipient of the beatdown posted mean things on the girl’s Facebook page. When she confronted him at school about it, he threw water on her. That’s when she went all MMA fighter on him.

The incident caught the eye of Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter Kit Dale. The Brazilian fighter went on to post the fight on his Facebook page after getting permission from the young girl.

“I always encourage people to learn martial arts to one, have the confidence to walk away so it doesn’t affect you, but if it does and you don’t have anywhere to back away, sometimes you’re going to need that to protect yourself,” Dale said.

Martial Arts involves various kinds of fighting arts, with or without weapons, most of which originated in East Asia. Martial arts are now practiced throughout the world. About 100 million people participate in the martial arts as a means of self-defense, physical fitness, mental tranquility, and competition. There are about 200 distinct martial arts, and within each one are specific schools called styles or systems. These styles number in the thousands.

One of the many distinct martial arts is jui- jutsu. Jiu jutsu (Japanese for ‘art of gentleness’) is a method of combat that employs holds, chokes, throws, trips, joint-locks, and some kicks and strikes. Jujutsu’s origins are lost to time, but experts believe that the first methods resembling the modern techniques emerged in the late 15th century and early 16th century and were part of the combat arsenal of Japanese samurai warriors. Although students initially learn jujutsu techniques one at a time, and do not combine movements, the essence of jui jutsu is the ability to flow quickly from one technique to another to control an attacker.

The actions of the girl have shown that even though we may not be a traditional martial artist, we can learn the martial art for the purpose of self-defense. Who knows when it might come in handy?

Apparently, the girl was eventually suspended, and the boy has a black eye, but is still attending school.
