A school dress code is nothing new for students these days. Even schools that don’t require their students to wear uniforms still have some type of dress code to follow. This will ensure that their students are not wearing something inappropriate to school.

Dress codes might include how long shorts, skirts, and dresses need to be. It might also ban certain words or images from t-shirts. Some will not even let their students, both girls and boys, wear tattered pants. And there are also schools that will not allow students to dye their hair.

The dress code would usually vary from school and school. But they all function to help students dress in an appropriate way that nobody is offended. So how do you describe an ‘inappropriate’ fashion style?

It is not new for some school dress codes to go too far. A male teen in Texas was suspended for breaking the dress code. He did not wear anything inappropriate. But instead, he wore fingernail polish. This may be allowed for female students, but not for male students.

Also, a teenage girl from Canada was sent home for breaking her school’s dress code. She wore an outfit to school that day that her female teacher thought was “distracting.” However, the school’s dress code is vague enough that if a teacher considers what the student wears as distracting, then that student breaks the dress code.

So why did this teacher find the girls’ attire to be so “distracting?”

According to reports, the 17-year-old girl was wearing a white turtleneck under a knee-length black dress.

That surely doesn’t sound very distracting, right? If you can imagine it, she even looked really cute. It covered her well and did not reveal anything that could be too distracting to others. In fact, she probably felt pretty as she headed off to school that morning only to be reprimanded for what she’s wearing shortly after she arrived at school.

The teen was “was signaled out in front of her class and told her outfit was inappropriate…she was sent home in tears.”

Her father, Christopher Wilson, was so furious after learning what happened to her daughter at school. He was so outraged by the teacher’s decision. He felt that the teacher was singling out his daughter and he feels that she was dressed very appropriately for school. He was so mad that he went live on Facebook to share what happened.

One comment on this video reads, “What I was expecting cleavage and a mini skirt, what’s wrong with her outfit.”

If you come to think of it, it’s hard to comprehend what the teacher was thinking when she decided that the girls’ outfit was inappropriate for school. Their family, friends, and even the online community could not understand if under what grounds did the teacher find the look inappropriate.

We can’t really say what the teacher saw that day. But for sure, the teacher has reasons for sending the girl home based on their dress code policy. But what do you think could it be?
