Everyone is really sad because a grandpa, Jonathan Mauk, who was 59 years old, was hurt really badly and didn’t survive after a small car accident in San Bernardino County.
This sad event happened on February 5th. Jonathan was going to Walmart in Highland to buy some things. It was around 8 in the evening when he got to the Walmart parking lot, looking for a place to park his car. While he was driving around, a lady was trying to back her car out of a parking spot.
The police explained that Jonathan stopped his car and then backed up a little bit. That’s when his car and the lady’s car bumped into each other. The bump was really light, only causing a few scratches.
When Jonathan got out to say sorry, the lady got out of her car too and, very sadly, she hurt Jonathan very badly and then she left. The police found out the lady’s name was Shawntece Norton, and she was 36 years old.
When the police got there, they found Jonathan. This made his family and friends very sad. Jonathan liked working on cars a lot and worked at Carey’s Fine Automobiles. His friend Lee Hall said Jonathan loved cars so much, he would have probably helped fix the lady’s car for free, but instead, she hurt him.
Jonathan’s son, Matthew, is having a really hard time understanding why his dad was hurt over something so small. He said it hurts a lot and wishes no one else has to feel this pain. Jonathan was known as a very kind person who liked to help others whenever he could. Matthew wants everyone to remember how much of a good person his dad was.
The police worked fast and arrested the lady who hurt Jonathan about 12 hours after it happened. She was taken by the police because she hurt someone on purpose.
