Mary Weiss, the famous singer of the Shangri-Las, passed away on Friday in Palm Springs, California. She was 75 years old.

Miriam Linna, who started Norton Records, the music label Mary was with, told everyone the sad news.

Mary was well-known for her song “Leader of the Pack,” but right now, people don’t know why she passed away.

Mary Weiss was only 15 when she and her sister Betty, along with their school friends, the twin sisters Mary-Ann and Marguerite Ganser, started the band in 1963.

The group, named after a restaurant in Queens, New York, became really famous. In 1964, one of their songs made it into the top 5 on the Billboard charts.

Their song “Remember (Walking in the Sand)” became really popular again when Aerosmith covered it, and it was a big hit on TikTok too. Mary’s part in the song “Oh No” is used a lot on the app.

Sadly, the groundbreaking group of girls who made music together stopped performing in 1968.
