Ella Lynn, a centenarian from Montgomery, Alabama, recently celebrated her 100th birthday in a special gathering. Born on June 20, 1923, in Hopeful, Alabama, Ella grew up as the fifth of seven children. The spirited woman spoke about her joy and gratitude for reaching this milestone, saying, “It feels wonderful. I’m just glad I can enjoy it even though I’m 100 years old.” She expressed her ongoing zest for life and placed her trust in Jesus Christ to guide her in the years to come.

Reflecting on her long life, Ella shared advice for those who aspire to live a fulfilling and lengthy life. She stressed the importance of self-care and advocated for a lifestyle free of drugs and alcohol.

A remarkable aspect of Ella’s life is her service to her country. After completing high school in 1942, she enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 during World War II. She was part of the Women’s Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES), an initiative that was established during the war. WAVES was designed to enlist women for service on shorelines in the United States, thereby freeing up men for deployment overseas. Throughout the course of the war, around 90,000 women, including Ella, made invaluable contributions by serving in this program.

Ella’s life took a romantic turn shortly after she was discharged from the Navy. She met the man who would become her husband, and the couple tied the knot in 1946. Together, they raised three children. Both Ella and her husband were employed at Maxwell Air Force Base after their marriage, reflecting a continued commitment to service.

In her later years, Ella remained active and engaged in her community. She retired at the age of 73, but instead of settling into a quiet retirement, she took on a new role as a Sunday school teacher. This decision highlights her enduring dedication to faith and education, and her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Ella Lynn’s 100th birthday celebration was not just a tribute to her age, but an acknowledgment of a life marked by service, dedication, and resilience. From her youthful days in the Navy, contributing to a pivotal moment in history, to her later years enriching the spiritual lives of her community, Ella’s centenary is a testament to a life well-lived.
