Billie Eilish Shuts Down Body Shamers and Asking Everyone to Normalize “Real Bodies”
Although she is only 20, Billie Eilish is no stranger to setting and breaking records. In 2020, she became the youngest person ever to win all four of the most prestigious Grammy Awards at the same time – Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.
She also does not think twice about shattering the public’s preconceived notions of who she really is. Her fans love her not only because of her relatable songs and soothing voice but also for her stand against body shamers.
Aside from her music, one thing that Eilish is known for is her unique look. Unlike young artists, she does not wear sexy clothes while performing. You can usually see her wearing extremely baggy clothes. She completely rocks the look, but some people can’t help but criticize the way she wears her clothes. Many do not like her style. But this does not bother the singer.
However, people were shocked when for the first time, photos of Billie Eilish in a bikini were shared on the Internet!
And her pictures quickly went viral. As expected, her photos received mixed reactions. She says that body shamers had attacked her pictures saying things that no woman deserves to receive, especially from strangers. She said, “I saw comments like, ‘How dare she talk about not wanting to be sexualized and wear this?!’”
She adds, “It was trending. There were comments like, ‘I don’t like her anymore because as soon as she turns 18, she’s a whore.’ Like, dude. I can’t win.”
She’s attacked because of her baggy clothes. And now that she’s wearing a bikini, people have something to say. Even if she’s wearing normal clothes, people are attacking those photos too. In the pictures, the singer is wearing a fitted tank top and a comfy-looking pair of shorts. Her fans think that she looks great. In fact, they find her beautiful no matter what she wears.
However, others have left negative comments about her looks. Some are comparing her body to that of a more mature lady. But in response to the negative comments, Eilish kept it cool and classy.
She shared a video of Chizi Duru on her Instagram Story. The message of the video is clear, that we can only hope that the people who shame others for their bodies would see it and understand the message behind it.
In the video, Duru says: “Not everybody has a wagon behind them, okay? Guts are normal. They’re normal. Boobs sag….especially after breastfeeding. Instagram isn’t real!”
Billie described her oversized outfits in a Calvin Klein behind-the-scenes film. She said, “Nobody can have an opinion [on my body], because they haven’t seen what’s underneath… I’m just wearing what I wanna wear. If there’s a day when I’m like, ‘You know what, I feel comfortable with my belly right now, and I wanna show my belly’, I should be allowed to do that.”
Billie Eilish is one of the biggest names in the music industry for this generation. At such an early age, she learned that when you’re in the public eye, your entire life is an open book not only to be admired and looked up to but also to be judged and criticized most of the time. But she will never let the body shamers get the best of her.
