A 91-year-old woman in San Francisco’s Richmond District was allegedly subjected to a random attack on Thursday morning. The victim was reportedly punched by a man, who knocked her into a concrete planter bed, just two minutes after she left her home on 47th Ave. The attack was captured on surveillance video and resulted in the victim receiving three stitches for her injuries.

The victim’s daughter, identified only as “F,” expressed her shock upon viewing the video. The woman has also been suffering from dementia, which was described as “a blessing and a curse” by her daughter, as it allowed her to forget about the traumatic event.

Later that afternoon, San Francisco police arrested 39-year-old Romeo Lorenzo Parham on charges of elder abuse, as well as several out-of-court warrants.

The attack on the 91-year-old woman came just before the city of San Francisco announced a new response protocol to hate incidents, which have seen a staggering 567% increase among Asian Americans between 2020 and 2021. Mayor London Breed spoke about the importance of a coordinated response to hate crimes, emphasizing the need to hold perpetrators accountable and provide support to victims so they can feel safe in San Francisco.

Overall, this attack serves as a reminder of the ongoing problem of hate and violence against marginalized communities, and the need for continued efforts to address this issue and protect those who are most vulnerable.
