High school can be tough. All the school work, getting along with your classmates and trying to fit in, and even making sure you have good grades can be very stressful. But aside from all the stress and headaches that you get, there are some of the fun parts too. Seeing your crush in the hallway, and finally getting ready to ask someone out for the dance.
For a teenage guy, asking someone out is one of the bravest things that you can ever do, especially if you are not used to going out on dates. There are plenty of shy guys and getting a date is difficult if you are one of the “not so popular” guys in school.
This is what Dakota Nelton felt when he finally had the courage to ask his friend to the homecoming dance. He is a sophomore from Gray, Louisiana and he needs a date for the homecoming dance. However, he never asked a girl before to be his date and this was definitely one of the most nerve-racking moments for him.
Unfortunately, the girl said no.
She was not mean about turning him down but the fact that it was done in front of their classmates made it awkward and humiliating. While his schoolmates bullied him and laughed at him for what happened he was just standing there not knowing what to do. They mocked him and even stepped on the poster that he used to ask his friend to be his date.
Knowing that everyone knew that you got turned down was more mortifying than the rejection itself. With his head held down low, he walked away quickly, embarrassed and probably wishing for the ground to swallow him up. Hoping that the next day, everyone would forget what happened.
During his interview with WGNO New Orleans later on, he shared his experience that day saying, “It was actually a pretty tough moment standing in a small circle with that one shake of the head and you just got to find your way out of that circle.”
This unfortunate event did not end here. What happened that day was caught on camera by the other students who were standing there, watching it unfold. To make matters worse, it was posted on Facebook! Surely, it became the laughing stock online and it even gained thousands of views. People from all over the United States, his family and friends, basically everyone knew what happened to this poor teen. Thousands of people have watched how a girl turned down Dakota Nelton that day.
When he went back to school a couple of days later, Dakota didn’t know what to expect. However, he was prepared for more teasing and bullying from his classmates. But something unexpected happened. As he was walking through the hallways, a group of 13 girls stopped him!
Each one of them is holding a sign asking Dakota to bring them all to the homecoming dance with him!
These girls were the ‘popular’ girls in the school and some were cheerleaders and athletes. One of the girls explained that after seeing how badly it all turned out and how people can be so mean on him on Facebook, they were ashamed to admit that they are also students of that school. So the girls gathered more girls until there 13 of them. What they were planning is to ask Dakota to the homecoming dance and they want to make sure that the proposal is done in public.
Dakota said YES to every single girl one of them!
The video of this epic proposal was also shared on Facebook and it became more popular than the first video that was shared of him.
